Nutrition: the gluttonous circle - How to behave at the table and beyond during the festive season

The festive season is known to be a critical point for proper eating and training habits that are hard to follow all year round. One almost gets the impression that in just a few days one can ruin sacrifices of weeks, months. We discussed the subject with our nutritionist biologist, Dr Federica Marchese.

‘DOC, HOW DO I BEHAVE DURING THE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS?’

THIS IS THE QUESTION OF THE MOMENT AT MY PATIENTS' CHECK-UPS! TODAY I WANT TO REASSURE YOU AND GIVE YOU SOME ADVICE TO GET THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

The only way to ‘behave’ is to enjoy good food, loved ones and even some rest!

WILL I LOSE ALL MY ACHIEVEMENTS?

You will not lose the results you have achieved: to stay in shape, what counts is CONSTANCY OVER THE LONG PERIOD.

You have a whole year to be focused on your aesthetic and performance goals: it is NOT these few days of partying and eating that will ruin them!

By this I do not mean that you should forget that healthy, balanced diet that accompanies you throughout the year (and which I always insist on!).

Never mind overdoing it from 24 December to 6 January: enjoy festive times with your family, and the rest of the time eat regularly, in a healthy and balanced way.

You don't need an impromptu detox or strenuous workouts to remedy this: just follow your healthy habits on days when no extraordinary meals are planned!

BUT CAN I EAT PANETTONE OR PANDORO EVERY DAY?

We are all better at Christmas... So let me teach you a way to incorporate these fantastic sweets into your diet. Don't include them at the end of a meal, where you have already built up the energy you need.

You can include them at breakfast or, in smaller quantities, even in a snack BUT always accompanied by a protein source such as milk or yoghurt (preferably Greek) so that you can satiate yourself both momentarily and to stay satiated over time.

A BIG ADVANTAGE OF EATING: MORE ENERGY!

If you plan to train in the days after the holidays... notice what great energy you will have in these sessions!!!

As I always say, food is our fuel: after a few days of eating more, your body will have energy reserves to make you strong in the coming workouts!

Happy holidays and remember...

Everyone is different in terms of physical characteristics, goals, habits, as well as proper nutrition
